The 1901 census has recently been digitalized by the National Archives and was released online on June 3rd 2010. Along with the 1911 census it is one of the most important genealogical resources to trace Irish family members. This is so as almost all census returns from the 1800s were destroyed in a fire at The Public Records Office during the Civil War or pulped for paper during World War I.
We can now see how many Buggy’s were living in the country at the time and in which counties they lived. Comparing with the 1911 census, we can see that results are very similar. The returns show that there were 298 people with the second name/surname Buggy living in the 32 counties. In 1901 there were 11 counties where people with the name lived. Comparing to 1911, Cork and Offaly are extra, with Galway being removed.
