In the 18th and early 19th centuries the state of Philadelphia had the highest number of people with the Buggy name, as shown in the US Census Series. To try and elaborate on this, I have compiled Buggy names found in death certificates from the city of Philadelphia.[1] Twenty-one certificates list the Buggy name, with all the references, except one, being for the deceased person. The information provided on the certificates varies to a great degree. As always, I have transcribed the information as it appears.

Apparently there are quite a lot of Buggys buried at Holy Cross cemetery in Yeadon, just outside Philly, including my grandparents; naturally, they mostly date to the middle of the twentieth century. So if anyone in that area is looking for Buggys, that’s a place to go.
