New York City Methodist Marriages 1785-1893

This single entry comes from New York City Methodist Marriages 1785-1893.[1] They were compiled by William Scott Fisher and contain over 80,000 names.

Richard Buggy married Mary A. Mitchell on the 13 September 1842.[2]

The entry comes from the marriage records of the Willett Street Church, 1838-1866, and is on page 8 of the original records.[3] The author further notes that “this record appears to be the one most prone to error. Some of the handwritten transcriptions make little sense, and are likely poor interpretations of the originals.”[4]

It would be very interesting to hear the story of a Methodist Buggy. Was he, or his parents, from Scotland or England? Did he convert from another religion? Comments on the article are most welcome if anyone knows.
