The recording of deaths by civil authorities in New York county (Manhattan) began in 1795. They were recorded in ledger books until 1866 when death certificates were introduced. This post contains all Buggy entries found in the Manhattan Death Certificate Indexes from 1868-1880. It is quite possible that a lot of deaths, especially of poor Irish immigrants, were not reported to the city authorities. Therefore, this should not be considered a complete list of Buggy deaths for the time period.
